Miami Dolphins (1-0) 27 New York Giants (0-1) 10: Eli Manning didn’t play, and backup Ryan Nassib was awful, sacked four times and threw two interceptions.

The Giants announced Friday morning that a healthy Eli Manning would not play against the Dolphins.

Neither coach had a lot to be happy about in a game marked by turnovers and penalties. The rookie caught one pass for 24 yards. NY had four turnovers and seven penalties for 56 yards.

This summer is not just another preseason for quarterback Ryan Nassib.

Koehn ended the night with a 28-yard field goal and an extra point.

Nassib drove the Giants 39 yards on the first drive – then a total of 40 yards over the next 10 drives.

Ryan Perriloux, David Carr, Curtis Painter, Ricky Stanzi; the list goes on of quarterbacks Nassib has beat out for the number two job, but Thomas could be a formidable foe after neither man was able to distinguish himself.

Eli Manning threw for 4,432 yards, 35 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in making 2.6 percent of his passes.

Rookie quarterback Brandon Doughty made his case for a roster spot, too, completing 7/9 passes for 66 yards. Rashad Jennings took three attempts for 11 yards and scored the only touchdown of the night for the Giants. After holding the ball for more than 18 minutes in the first half, the offense was limited to nine minutes of possession in the second.

First-round pick Apple was diagnosed with a lower-leg strain after undergoing X-rays, which were negative. Goodson had seven tackles, including two for loss, but had some trouble with cramping.

The late start and the pre-game rain dropped the temperature to 76 degrees at kickoff.

The Dolphins had safety Shamiel Gary (neck), defensive end Julius Warmsley (concussion) and receiver Jakeem Grant (ribs) get nicked.

Apple was hurt against the Dolphins. Wide receiver Geremy Davis did not participate in practice as he developed a hamstring issue during Friday night’s game against the Dolphins.

Cruz and the Giants have downplayed the groin problem since it surfaced.

“I’ve got to put in the work every single day, and just try to keep getting better and better”. “He got a little more than anticipated”.

Giants defensive end Olivier Vernon, the former University of Miami standout who played his previous four years with the Dolphins, got a good hit on Ryan Tannehill on the game’s first possession.
