Eli Manning wants to be the highest-paid NFL quarterback

His $19.5 million cap hit (which includes a workout bonus and a roster bonus) is third-highest among quarterbacks behind only Drew Brees and the recently-extended Philip Rivers, according to Spotrac.

Getty ImagesIt’s been quite the offseason for quarterbacks in search of contract extensions, and now Eli Manning wants to join the party and get paid.

Schwartz mentioned the amount of money teams around the league typically spend on quarterbacks and said that “it is inconceivable Manning will accept anything less than $20 million per year on at least a four-year extension”. Five months ago, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the parties agreed to a five-year, $99 million contract which included a whopping Ben Roethlisberger will take home more than $35 million in bonuses and salaries in 2015.

“Significant gap” or not, the Giants are ready to move forward with their quarterback and his contract before the regular season starts. “That’s for the Giants and my agent to talk about. That’s what I think about”. Manning doesn’t care. He and the Giants know they’ll be paying him a huge salary next year. “Even right now, his recovery cycle work and flexibility is better than I’ve ever seen it”. “I thought last year his improvement was outstanding”.

It’s also worth mentioning that Manning (167) and Rivers (144) are 1-2 on the active list when it comes to consecutive starts by quarterbacks. Despite the gaudy figures, Manning and his reps, as well as some members of the Giants brass, are reportedly feeling uncertainty and surprise that a new deal isn’t closer to coming to fruition, per Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.

“The Giants have always been a solid organization, and Eli obviously is a unique human being and a terrific guy, so I think he’s uniquely suited to be the New York Giant quarterback, ” Condon said Wednesday on Sirius XM NFL Radio.

However, Tom Condon, the agent for the 34-year-old quarterback, argues that Manning’s value lies in the way that he’s been able to handle the ruthless New York media for his entire career. “He’s truly is unflappable”.
