According to Variety sources, Banks’ increasingly packed schedule has made it hard to continue in her role as director.

With a score of pop hits, Pitch Perfect 2 was released May 15, 2015; the second chapter in the story about an all-female a cappella college singing group enjoyed the highest-grossing movie-musical opening of all time.

Elizabeth will stay on as a producer of the upcoming movie and she will seemingly still appear as Gail in the film.

Universal recently pushed the release date from July 21, 2017 to December 22, 2017.

Banks’ directorial follow-up could either be the Charlie’s Angels reboot that she’s agreed to direct for Sony, or the film adaptation of Victoria Aveyard’s popular YA novel Red Queen, which she’s rumoured to be circling for Universal.

Whoever directs Pitch Perfect 3 will be taking on a franchise that’s pulled in a whopper amount of cash.

Anna Kendrick, Britanny Snow and Rebel Wilson have already been confirmed to headline the returning cast of Pitch Perfect 3. Also producing Pitch Perfect 3 are series fixtures Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment and Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions.

With all those projects, plus her villainous role in the Power Rangers reboot on her plate, we’re not surprised Elizabeth is letting another filmmaker take over PP3! She will reportedly hold on to that gig, as well as her title as producer.

Kay Cannon, who scripted the first two franchise entries, is working on the script for the third film.
