Elizabeth Warren has finally endorsed Hillary Clinton

The meeting comes after Warren on Thursday threw her support behind Clinton, following President Obama in sending a signal to progressive voters now backing Bernie Sanders that it’s time to unite around the presumptive nominee.

Warren left the meeting smiling after roughly an hour and did not speak to reporters outside.

“It is absolutely a joy and an honour that President Obama and I, over the years, have gone from fierce competitors to true friends”, she said.

Do you think Bernie Sanders should drop out of the presidential race?

It’s unclear when Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump might visit Wisconsin.

Dr Franklin said that because Mr Obama is “exceptionally popular among most Democrats”, his endorsement would help Mrs Clinton hold on to and energise her base.

In the television interview Thursday night, Warren batted down speculation of Clinton tapping her as the vice presidential nominee.

In the endorsement, Obama also congratulates Sanders on an “incredible” campaign and for getting more people involved in the political process. Warren and Sanders share views on issues such as reining in Wall Street excesses and fighting income inequality.

“I want to be out there with him and have a chance to campaign with him”, she said. ”It just means so much to have a strong, substantive endorsement from the president”.

When Clinton announced in March 2015 that she had turned over 55,000 pages of emails to the State Department for public release, she also she said she “chose not to keep my private, personal emails”.

Clinton used the speech to deliver a forceful critique of Trump’s statement that he would be “great” for women if elected to the White House.

Republicans, meanwhile, are still grappling with the controversy over Trump’s attacks on Mexican-American U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is overseeing fraud lawsuits against the billionaire’s defunct real estate training school. “Now these questions are not hypothetical”, Clinton added.

Ms Clinton’s account quickly responded: “Delete your account”, in a tweet to her 6.7 million Twitter followers.

“The President believes that Senator Sanders has more than earned the right to make his own decision about the course of his campaign”, said White House spokesman Josh Earnest.

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has promised to remain in the race through the District of Columbia primary to'work together with Hillary Clinton and to bring his platform to the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia
