Ellen meets Ellen when Kate McKinnon appears on the show
Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon does a spot-on impression of the talk-show host, and in an episode airing Wednesday she brought it to The Ellen DeGeneres Show to compare to its real-life source material. These are the existential questions we all pose to ourselves on a regular basis, the queries that keep us up until the wee hours, wondering if Ellen DeGeneres is staring at the same YouTube video of the moon. “True story – I once went on a ski vacation with a baby goat”, said McKinnon.

Ellen marveled at Kate’s impersonation and replied, ‘Oh that’s how you say it, “I’m Ellen”‘.
Side-by-side, the women deliver the show’s opening monologue, with McKinnon continuing to entertain the audience by cracking jokes about Kid, the puppy DeGeneres shares with her wife, Portia de Rossi.
Kate admitted during the show that she felt a lot of pressure whenever she was impersonating somebody. “It’s nerve wrecking. It’s kind of like getting caught playing dress up in your Mom’s closest and you just want to be like Mommy am I pretty, do I look good in your clothes? Am I doing alright?”‘ she said.
‘It’s a source of tremendous stress. But I always try to make it empathetic. I’m very anxious about him being upset, ‘ she said.

When McKinnon finished her monologue, DeGeneres asked, “Well, Ellen, do you know what happens now?”
