The 31-year-old Ellsbury has played four rehabilitation games for Class A Tampa and is not scheduled to play again in the minors. Brett Gardner has done a fantastic job in Ellsbury’s place atop the Yankees’ lineup, but it was the one-two punch being delivered nearly nightly that sparked the Yankees earlier this season.

Ellsbury, in his second season with the Yankees, was off to a solid start before the injury. It is expected that Dellin Betances will slide into the set-up role and Miller will claim his closer role agian. The left-hander is 3-1 with a 1.53 ERA in his last five starts, completing seven-plus innings four times. He had not registered a blown save and had 43 strikeouts over 26 1/3 innings pitched. The Yankees’ bullpen also figures to get a boost from the return of Andrew Miller, who will also be activated from the disabled list. Lawrie has hit safely in eight of his last nine games while batting.345.2.

The 19 home runs against him this year are among the most in the majors.
