Elvis Week: Graceland Online Auction to Feature 170+ Items

A jacket worn by Elvis Presley in the 1964 film “Viva Las Vegas” and more than 150 other items belonging to the late singer were due to go up for auction on Thursday evening as part of Elvis Week events at his Graceland home in Memphis.

The gun, writes Graceland Auctions, is a very rare piece of Elvis history.

In a statement to the media earlier on Thursday, Graceland Auctions said: “The integrity of the auction and the authenticity of artifacts are of paramount importance to us”.

“I think it’s so appropriate that it’s named the forever stamp, because as you know Elvis Presley will be forever in our hearts”.

“It’s a building process”, said Elvis Presley Enterprises president and CEO Jack Soden of the official Graceland auctions. But the biggest shocker is that the aged kicks are expected to bring in as much as $6,000, according to ABC News. The authenticated Presley items were from third-party collectors only and not from the mansion or Graceland archives which are owned by Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley.

Nothing says rock’n’roll like bidding on an old tax return from Elvis Presley.

The Million Dollar Quartet is named for the stars – Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis – who came together for just one night in an impromptu jam session at Sun Records on December 4, 1956.

Presley gave the 14-karat yellow gold owl ring to a fan after a concert in Lake Tahoe in May 1973. That sale drew worldwide attention as Elvis’ first recording – an acetate of the songs “My Happiness” and “That’s When Your Heartaches Begin”, cut at the Memphis Recording Service in 1953 – was sold for $300,000. A Presley-owned gold and diamond ring – flanked with the initials E and P – sold for $22,000.

The 1962 dark, charcoal-colored suit was worn by Presley in the MGM movie “It Happened at the World’s Fair”. Selling price: $3,375.
