Ely marchers join national rally for stricter gun laws

Las Vegas students leading the local March for Our Lives event made the following demands of their elected officials: Pass and enforce legislation on background checks before the purchase of a weapon; remove guns from those who are a danger to themselves and others; ban weapons designed for the battlefield from civilians and law enforcement; and recognize how gun violence impacts communities of color and implement preventive programs to combat this.

We can only hope that the middle-aged and elderly among us are indeed not too jaded to have understood the message of those representatives of the younger generation who had personally endured the terror and risk of over-lenient gun trafficking, as those kids from Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, surely had.

Liberal Hollywood elites, the most vociferous advocates for gun control, refuse to take responsibility for the violence and lack of morals that are constant themes in their movies and TV shows.

A student at New Foundations Charter School in Northeast Philadelphia, she said she’s scared, afraid to go to school.

“We are going to be the last mass shooting”, Gonzalez said.

That left hundreds of people in lines outside the Statehouse which had only a single metal detector working at one entrance by the time the rally was to begin at 11 a.m. You’re either with us, or you’re against us. “We will be courageous, and we will find solutions to end school violence”.

Numerous adults on the ballot this year have certainly failed to do anything about gun violence.

Also to blame are the schools’ abandonment of teaching morals and respect in developing years and the rise of social media, where anyone can and will say anything to bully or embarrass others without outcome. “This is about getting guns out of the hands of people who should not have them”. I prepared to face a crowd larger than I could even imagine. “It’s completely unimaginable”, Julie Vicford said with her “Enough is enough” poster waving in the air.

“We started planning this demonstration about six weeks ago, and we initially planned to gather in front of Roxborough High School”, Weston said. In addition to the almost impossible challenge of finding the necessary resources, experience tells me it is nearly impossible to flag all potential shooters, to convince them of their need for help, to maintain their focus on treatment, to pay for the needed services, etc.

From what Larry wrote, I suspect that he is quite familiar with guns: handguns, rifles, shotguns and assault rifles. “It’s really, really important for students to see that passion on display but also hear a lot of the discourse behind it as well”. The two had been tapped to deliver a primer on gun laws Tuesday at #PHLYouthTalks: Gun Violence from Parkland to Philly, a gathering at South Philadelphia High School.

He added, “This fight is for the most basic of your rights”.

Registering to vote is necessary in making progress towards better gun regulations.

“This is what change looks like”.

“I feel completely inspired because it’s an inspired group of people and I was thinking about this morning, Martin Luther King, when all those marches happened during the civil rights”, Galante said. “Reporters should say to community members “I’ll still be here a month from now and a year from now” she said. As each one came forward sharing their frustrations and fears, hearing the audience cheers and seeing the nods of encouragement from the adults seated before them, they felt empowered.

“Each of you is here today because you had a moment where you said, ‘Enough is enough'”. None of them can agree on what they want or what laws will actually work, but that’s not stopping them.

“I don’t think my question was completely fulfilled”, Gambro said. Zook said McQueen has been working against gun violence for a long time and deserved a platform like this. For some reason, our legislators seem to feel that humans who are being hunted with assault rifles do not deserve the same sporting chance as big game. Still, there is no exact date on when these regulations will be finalized.
