EMC launches new technology solutions to modernize data centres

Under that umbrella, the pure Dell name will live on in the company’s client business, including its PCs, while its enterprise infrastructure division will be called Dell EMC, Chairman and CEO Michael Dell announced on Monday at EMC World in Las Vegas.

Dell EMC will be the name and sub-brand for the company’s enterprise business – including products and solutions sold directly and through the channel to business and institutional customers.

EMC has announced a swathe of new products at its annual EMC World conference in Las Vegas that is claims will help businesses get the most from the investments they have already made in their data centres while they move towards a more modern infrastructure.

“Clearly, Dell is buying a bigger and better storage company”, Peters said. EMC’s Internal Data Lake leverages modern infrastructure using EMC Storage and converged platforms including Isilon, XtremIO and VCE® VxRack™ System 1000 with FLEX Nodes, VMware, Greenplum, Pivotal Cloud Foundry and third-party technology to deliver powerful analytics and data-driven visualizations created to help enable customers to make well-informed IT decisions.

EMC Unity will be available as a virtual appliance, called UnityVSA, including the file and block storage and data management features of the physical platform.

Geared toward SMB deployments, EMC Unity is a family of all-flash storage arrays starting at less than $18,000. It is surprising that, after declaring 2016 the year of all-flash for primary storage, EMC is launching a hybrid version of its new primary storage system.

The announcements span major new all flash storage, cloud storage, copy data management, software-defined storage, and service and support capabilities.

“Enterprises are generating exponentially-growing data and looking for cost-effective strategies for long-term backup retention and archival storage, in addition to seeking resilient, cost-effective and scalable platforms for cloud-native application data”, said Rodney Rogers, chief executive officer at Virtustream, in a statement. MyService360 replaces the My Support tab of EMC Online Support, and follows cloud-based predictive storage analytics from vendors such as FalconStor, Nimble Storage, Pure Storage, Tintri and Virtual Instruments (LoadDynamiX).

Virtustream Storage Cloud will be generally available on May 10, 2016 with nodes in the United States and Europe.

EMC ViPR Controller is a storage automation software that centers and transforms storage into a simple, extensible and open platform. This new platform has been extensively tested, with underlying elements running successfully in production for several years as the primary object storage platform for a select set of customers managing multiple Exabytes of data, with hundreds of billions of objects under management and an event monitoring system that processes more than 35 billion events per day.

The advantage of Virtustream Storage Cloud is that EMC users could take advantage of it without buying a cloud gateway from another vendor and signing a contract with yet a third company, the service provider, said Jeremy Burton, EMC’s president of products and marketing. They include the EMC Data Domain and EMC Data Protection Suite backup systems and the VMax, XtremIO and newly announced Unity arrays.
