Emergency Crews Battle Large Wildfires in Six Western States
More than 400 homes remained threatened by the fire, which was started July 22 by an illegal campfire and has destroyed 57 homes and 11 other buildings.

Hearst Castle was closed over the weekend, though officials say the fire is growing in the opposite direction of the popular tourist attraction.
Another inferno, the Bluecut Fire, which has burned some 37,000 acres near San Bernardino in southern California, is now 85 percent contained, fire officials said.
Firefighters had expected to contain the fire by the end of this month, but fire officials revised the containment date to September 30.
Authorities say a wildfire that has burned some homes west of Spokane, Washington, doubled in size overnight as it raged uncontained.
The U.S. Forest Service’s Fire Lab in Missoula, Montana, houses a burn chamber to designed specifically to answer that question. Evacuation orders are affecting almost 2,500 people at this point.
“Our efforts, combined with the weather, are contributing to the delay of the fire’s movement”, said Stephen Hearst, vice president and general manager of Hearst’s Western Properties, referring to ranch staff members working with Cal Fire.
The number of hand crews rose Sunday from 74 to 93 – supported by 297 engines, 43 water tenders, 14 helicopters, seven air tankers and 47 bulldozers – to fight the fire that started on the afternoon of August 13 just south of Nacimiento Reservoir, a Cal Fire spokesman said Sunday evening.
“As with all evacuation orders and warnings, these are implemented for the safety of the public and firefighters”, Cal Fire told residents.
Hundreds of people are expected to heed the expanded evacuation orders with some having no other option but to stay in the Red Cross emergency shelter at Flamson School in Paso Robles. The blaze continued to burn on steep terrain, along with very dry brush and timber.
The Hart Road Fire has scorched 6,000 acres as it jumped the Spokane River and destroyed several homes.
The fire, which is 20 percent contained, caused the closure of campgrounds and recreation areas.

Colligan said Monday that although the castle did not appear to be under immediate threat by the fire, crews were well aware that winds can change quickly.
