A plane carrying 161 passengers from Poland to Egypt was forced to make an emergency landing in eastern Bulgaria early Thursday because of a bomb scare, airport officials said.

It is reported a 60-year-old passenger aboard the plane claimed to have explosives on the plane.

The passenger who alerted crew about a possible bomb, admitted on questioning to having consumed alcohol, a police spokeswoman said.

Polish Vice Consul Jakub Lasinski said on TVN24 he was assured by Bulgarian authorities that the situation is “under full control”.

The airline would decide whether the flight continued its route or headed back to Warsaw, the Burgas mayor told reporters.

The bomb threat was made by a 64-year-old drunk passenger and was not based on any facts.

On October 31, a Russian plane flying from the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm al-Sheikh to St Petersburg blew up in mid-air killing all 224 people onboard.
