“This film is really born from watching our kids grow up, which is not easy”, Docter told the Oscars audience.
He added that “Inside Out” had been inspired by his own children growing up and concluded by urging the audience to embrace creativity: “You can make stuff. It will make a world of difference”, Docter said while accepting his trophy.
Pixar has produced animated short and feature films for more than 25 years, the company’s website says.
Disney Animation has won the last two animated Oscarswith “Frozen” and “Big Hero 6”.
It also marks the second time a film directed by Docter has taken home the prize. He previously won for 2009’s Up.
Released on June 9 after debuting at Cannes the month before, the pic is also up for Best Original Screenplay at the 88 Academy Awards but lost out to Spotlight. Of the more than 300 reviews collected by movie review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, 299 were positive and only five were negative, giving the film a lofty 98 percent “fresh” rating.
Inside Out beat Charlie Kaufman’s puppet-starring Anomalisa, Brazilian director Alê Abreu’s Boy and the World, Shaun and the Sheep Movie, and Studio Ghibli’s final feature When Marnie Was There.

With one of the highest Rotten Tomato scores of the year (98%, 2nd place for 2015, Best Animated Feature Golden Tomato Award), a box office total of over $850 Million worldwide, and a Golden Globe award to its name already, Pixar’s “Inside Out” was one of the greatest accomplishments in film of 2015.
