“There’s a message being sent out to the world where people are giving opinions that are plain wrong”, the Cuban-American musician said, as quoted by Billboard.

Back in June, Donald Trump threw gasoline on the anti-immigrant fire in a speech in which he said that Mexico is “sending people that have lots of problems, and they are bringing those problems to us”.

The racist and xenophobic statements against Mexicans served as an inspiration for Estefan’s creation of the anthem, which celebrates the contributions of Hispanic immigrants to the United States. “We need to lift up our pride and show the world all the great things we’re doing”.

“It’s about the American dream, not changing your name, not changing your sound, ” Estefan said. Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton and Guillermo Rodriguez from “Jimmy Kimmel Live” also appeared in the clip.

“Mexicans are being vilified in the United States by some of the media and political leaders and in some of the public’s sentiment because they comprise 67 percent of the Latino population and because their native country shares a direct border with the United States and are the majority of the “Latinos” crossing that particular border”, the caption continued.

“I think people need to realize that we come from different places and different cultures and at the same time, we came here to make a difference, ” Estefan said during a phone interview from New York City. “It’s about the celebration of Hispanic Heritage and how lucky we are to be in America”.

Estefan told Billboard Magazine, the song was not directly a jab at Donald Trump, but rather a response to the anti-Mexican sentiment he had witnessed in the media.
