The actress told People ahead of a screening of her new film Sicario in New York it isn’t the movie – which follows FBI agents as they combat drug trafficking between U.S. and Mexico – which scares her about being a naturalized citizen of the United States, it’s the election.
Blunt’s American citizenship was also brought up during her guest appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last week. “Individuals ask me about it the entire day. So I think that’s why the rumors happen”, she told Indiewire. I think I know more about American history than I do about British history, which is interesting. Blunt indicated that she was especially sad to be made to publicly renounce her allegiance to Queen Elizabeth. In a highly “favorited” tweet, Dean Cain said, “Funny, I don’t remember America asking #EmilyBlunt to become a citizen”.
Some Americans did not see this as a particularly nice comment to make after the country granted Blunt a passport.
Blunt talked about the matter to Indie Wire at the end of an interview for her new highly buzzed about thriller Sicario.
Her fellow hosts continued the outburst with Steve Doocy saying that Blunt “just Dixie Chicked herself”. Fans would just have to hope that both Cruise and McQuarrie come up with something spectacular in order to have her onboard.
Doocy then suggested she had just ruined her own reputation, like the Dixie Chicks did when they criticized George Bush back in 2003.
