Emily Ratajkowski Defends Dress Choice After Fashion Critic Calls It ‘Appallingly Vulgar’
Ratajkowski was the target of familiar, gendered criticism after her appearance at Harper’s Bazaar ICONS party by Project Runway host Tim Gunn, who branded her cut-away dress “appallingly vulgar and repugnant”.

When fellow guest Nene Leakes defended the “Gone Girl” actress, pointing out the fact that Kim Kardashian had recently stepped out wearing looks that exposed her nipples, Gunn did not budge. “Is this all just about, ‘Let’s get everybody shocked?’ I will tell you, I’m not shocked”, the television personality said.
Meanwhile, it’s not the only time this week Gunn has hit gossip headlines – he’s also slammed pop star Kanye West’s fashion line Yeezy on TV. Commenters said I had “an excess of beauty and lack of brain” and told me to ‘shut up and show us your tits’.
Ratajkowski was not amused, tweeting: “Western men in 2016: Want to ban women overseas from voluntarily covering themselves at the beach…then want women to cover up their “vulgar” bodies at home”. I lived through the 1960s. Is this more an argument that the market needs to correct itself, or is this more of just a populist call for fashion for everyone? “Why keep trying to dictate what women can wear?” And what I loved about his show is that he fully integrated the models that were larger than a size 12 with all the little double and triple zeros. After speaking at a rally for Bernie Sanders in February, she was heavily trolled on social media for attention seeking. “This would allow us too much power”. She continued, “We shouldn’t have to apologize for wanting attention either. It’s not our responsibility to change the way we are seen – it’s society’s responsibility to change the way it sees us”.
“I think the only thing dumber than the clothes would be the people who would buy these clothes”, he said. “I wasn’t even thinking of the hosts of nationally televised shows who call women vulgar because they can see their stomachs”.

He went on to call the Kardashian-Jenner family “vulgar”, noting that even Kendall Jenner, who has risen so high as a model (she appears on the cover of Vogue ” s coveted September issue), doesn’t impress him.
