Emirates EK521 flight from India crash-lands at Dubai International Airport

One firefighter was killed while trying to extinguish the blaze, which completely gutted the plane just moments after the passangers and crew managed to make it off.

Emirates, which is based at Dubai International, said it expected disuptions to its flights to continue for the next 36 hours.

The three-and-a-half-hour, almost 3,000-kilometer (1,860-mile) flight itself began normally.

The Qantas alliance partner said the 777-300, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 800 engines, involved in the accident joined the Emirates fleet in March 2003.

Traffic was disrupted by cancellation of 237 flights after an Emirates plane crash-landed and closed down the Dubai International Airport for several hours.

To compensate, airport authorities were maximising the use of Al Maktoum International Airport at Jebel Ali. Airport director Deepak Shastri said that the issue was resolved within couple of hours.

Flight Radar, a third party website say that fights that were scheduled to arrive at DXB were diverted to multiple airport Muscat, Bahrain and Al Ain.

Dubai Airports, the government-controlled owner company of the airport, made a decision to provide free and unlimited internet connections as well as free refreshments to departing passengers.

Emirates said 157 passengers stayed in Dubai following the accident, while the rest remained in transit at the airport. Jet Airways also urged passengers flying to Dubai to check their flight schedules.

Ms. Jeri, a Dubai resident from Ethiopia whose flight from terminal one to Addis Ababa was cancelled on Wednesday said “everything was handled very professionally”.

Five passengers who suffered minor injuries were taken to local hospitals, the airline said.

In the wake of the horrific Emirates crash landing in Dubai, Indian budget carrier Spicejet has cancelled all flights to the Dubai Airport.

The passenger jet was carrying 275 people, including the crew members.

Flight EK521 was on its final leg after traveling from Trivandrum International Airport in Thiruvananthapuram, India, to Dubai, when suddenly the lights went off.
