“Just jump. Leave your bags behind”. One South African has been listed on board according to the passenger records released by the airline.
Once emergency response teams managed to extinguish the fire it was clear how deadly this accident could have been: the entire top half of the aircraft’s fuselage was missing, with the belly of the plane slumped on the tarmac.
The video footage and images posted in the social media shows the smoke billowing around the airport.
All 300 passengers and crew members were safely evacuated but a firefighter died while tackling the blaze.
The firefighter was named Jasim Al Beloushi from the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
Air services on the Chennai-Dubai sector were yet to be restored as three airlines have cancelled their flights today, following the crash landing of an Emirates flight in Dubai, airport authorities said. I bruised my feet as I ran without my shoes. Well most of us would try to save our lives first.
Wisma Putra has confirmed that two Malaysians were among the passengers of Emirates Airlines Flight EK521 from Thiruvananthapuram, India but are not able to reach them yet. All 300 passengers on board, including crew, escaped the plane but 13 passengers suffered minor injuries.
Airline officials were not able to say what caused the accident, though the chief executive ruled out “anything in terms of security issues at this stage”.
Sheikh Ahmed said the pilot was an Emirati with more than 7,000 hours of flight time and the aircraft had “all necessary inspection checks” before take-off.
On Wednesday, Emirates’s Boeing 777 skidded off the runway at Dubai International Airport and burst into flames.
“Our priority is now the health and safety of our passengers”, he added.

“It was a big noise”, said Shadi Kochuktty, a passenger from India.
