Indian passengers (foreground) who said they were aboard the Emirati plane that caught fire the previous day during a crash-landing, wait for their flight at the departures hall at Dubai airport, on August 4, 2016.

Emirates, the world’s biggest airline by worldwide traffic, said it expects schedule disruptions for the next 36 hours.

Though the airport officials said that the delay was due to the shutdown of the Dubai worldwide airport in the wake of the fire incident on Wednesday, the exact reason is not yet known. Dubai International Airport gradually started to resume operations at approximately 6.30pm local time last night.

If your flight has been cancelled, please check terms and conditions for rebooking or contact the local Emirates sales offices.

Ms. Jeri, a Dubai resident from Ethiopia whose flight from terminal one to Addis Ababa was cancelled on Wednesday said “everything was handled very professionally”.

All flights to Dubai were diverted to nearby airports like Sharjah on Wednesday, as a result of which many flights from Delhi were cancelled.

Emirates said flight disruptions are expected till Friday. Re-opening the second brings the airport closer to normal operations.

The precise cause of the accident on Wednesday has yet to be confirmed, however Emirates has suggested windshear could have been a factor.

“Due to reduced capacity we are having to prioritise arriving and departing flights to make the best use of available runway to clear the backlog”, the facility’s operator, Dubai Airports, said in a statement.

“From August 05 till 0730 IST August 07 – limited flights will be allowed to operate from Dubai airport”, IndiGo said in a statement.

There were 282 passengers and 18 crew on board.
