Emmy Awards 2016 list of winners
Louis-Dreyfus used her victory to take a dig at GOP contender Donald Trump in a ceremony loaded with election-year asides.

It wasn’t even offensive; but it was lazy, and it threatened to overshadow the fact that talking about diversity, and even seeing more of it in the nominations, doesn’t at all mean that people of color have it better in Hollywood.
Besides best drama, “GOT” won David Benioff and DB Weiss the best writing in a drama series honour and best directing in a drama series for Miguel Sapochnik.
Without quite saying so, Tambor’s speech was a half-acknowledgement that the actor has come under fire for being a cisgender man playing a trans role. It’s an average comedy, but we suspect “pay-to-play” has something to do with the consistent wins.
Host Jimmy Kimmel opens the show at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California, U.S., September 18, 2016. Malek is superb in the series. But other big wins, including Malek’s and Tatiana Maslany for “Orphan Black” (it turns out there is a God), spread the gold around.
Jeffrey Tambor won best lead actor in a comedy series for his role in the Amazon series Transparent and urged the TV industry to provide more opportunities for transgender actors.
Winning actors from the Simpson series couldn’t hide their excitement backstage.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series went to Julia Louis-Dreyfus from “Veep”. “Veep” has emerged as a successor to ABC’s competing comedy “Modern Family”, which previously won the category five times in a row. Of those nominated, Ellie Kemper was deserving.
Comedian John Oliver, who won an Emmy for outstanding variety series for “Last Week Tonight”, promoted humor in the current political climate as being much-needed.
Outstanding Television Movie was a no-brainer.
She shared the stage with actor Tom Hiddleston to give away the Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special award to “The Night Manager director” Susanne Bier. It was kind of an uncomfortable joke.
Louie Anderson was honoured as best supporting actor in a comedy series for his portrayal of a loving but tough mom in “Baskets”. (Really though, you’ve seen his butt; he’s everyone’s freebie). The entire category was way off.
Jokes and politicking took place onstage and off Sunday.
The Emmys began on a lighter moment with a amusing nod to some of TV’s biggest pop culture moments of the past year. Why are they pushing this outdated sketch program and its players on us?
Sarah Paulson, who played former O.J. Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark, brought Clark to the Emmys and apologized to her in front of millions for not being kind in the past. Some excellent new series and talent were nominated for brilliant direction, fine writing and complex performances…
As she left the stage, Jimmy Kimmel wandered back on, faux-contemplative. “We are so glad to know that people enjoy the show nearly as much as we enjoy making it”. The political jokes are getting exhausted, by this point.
Kimmel also went after Trump, wondering: “If it wasn’t for television, would Donald Trump be running for President?” There were also an overabundance of O.J. Simpson jokes and a very poorly placed joke about the memorandum video.

Last night was also memorable for a number of Brits who picked up awards.
