Modern Family star Sofia Vergara put on a courageous face after her show failed to win a record-breaking sixth Emmy for outstanding comedy series.
In addition to top comedy series honors, “Veep” – the misadventures of a female United States vice president who rises to the presidency – saw its star Julia Louis-Dreyfus win for the fourth time in a row.
Her castmate Tony Hale won best supporting actor in a comedy series for playing her loyal political aide, and the show also won a writing award.
Last year’s Emmy telecast on NBC averaged 15.6 million viewers.
But rival networks still claimed a few other top awards.
Louis-Dreyfus cracked a joke about Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump in her acceptance speech, saying “it’s getting trickier and trickier to satirise this stuff”.
“The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity”, she said. He took home the Emmy for the role in 2013.
Davis was one of several pioneering actors honored Sunday night.
But even more praise went to her mother and sister who were also at the event: “These are people who have helped me read lines for auditions and stayed up late learning the script with me, and my mom has stood for me when I couldn’t stand myself and carried me in times when I was weak. Thanks for letting us be part of the change”, said Tambor, who plays Maura, the former Mort, Pfefferman. Thank you for your stories.
Ms. Soloway created “Transparent” and won an award for directing, 1 of 11 nominations the show received. “We have a trans civil rights problem”.
Limited Series: “Olive Kitteridge“, HBO.

The show also picked up nods for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series (Bradley Whitford), and Outstanding Costumes For A Contemporary Series, Limited Series or Movie.
“This show fights for what we believe in”, Schumer said. “Game of Thrones” spoiled a bid by “Mad Men”, the AMC series that wrapped up its run in May”, for a record fifth prize as best drama.
