Emmy Awards: Game of Thrones breaks record, takes haul to 38
After commenting on the diversity of the Emmy nominations in comparison to the Oscars, and after seeing Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang win the award for Master of None, he joked, “Now there’s nearly too much diversity in this show”.

The win for FX’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson” for best limited series was the most widely predicted victory of the night, and the show – a scripted drama recounting the American football star’s shocking fall from grace – swept up acting prizes. It beat off a challenge from U.S. network’s Mr. Robot, as well as Netflix’s dark Washington D.C. drama House of Cards.
And this doesn’t even begin to cover the most-nominated show of the night, which documents the 1994 murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman and the most-watched trial of the 1990s – “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson”.
First-time victor Tatiana Maslany received the lead actress in a drama award for playing multiple human clones in the BBC America series “Orphan Black”.
Writing for a Drama Series: David Benioff and D.B. Weiss “Game of Thrones”.
“Oh, my God. Please tell me you’re seeing this too”, said a stunned Malek, who plays an emotionally troubled engineer caught up in a unsafe hacking conspiracy. “As she stood backstage next to star (and best-actor winner) Jeffrey Tambor – who plays a transgender woman on the show – she said, “[Trump] needs to be called out every chance we get as one of the most risky monsters to ever approach our lifetimes. That brings her total Emmy nominations to nine and Emmy wins to three. Louie Anderson, who regularly appeared on TV in the 1990s, won Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. And during his monologue, Kimmel referenced Trump, specifically pointing out the man in the audience who made him a television star.
British comedian John Oliver, who made his name on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, won outstanding variety talk show for satirical programme Last Week Tonight. “I think that “Veep” has torn down the wall between comedy and politics”. You probably just want to go home curl up and cry.
Jimmy Kimmel, who first hosted a pedestrian Emmys in 2012, came back and did much better – relaxed, sarcastic without being mean, and quick on his feet. “We are so glad to know that people enjoy the show nearly as much as we enjoy making it”.
In this way, Kimmel actively engaged with the show, propelled it and stayed visible throughout, rather than bookending the broadcast with opening jokes then a fast good night with long absences in between, which is often the case with awards-show hosts.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who won her fifth consecutive trophy as leading actress in a comedy series for “Veep”, revealed that her heart was aching after the death of her father two days before. After an awkward silence, Kimmel said it was a joke – the TV star embroiled in decades-old accusations of sexual assault wasn’t invited.
