The outstanding comedy actor gong went to Jeffrey Tambor, who plays a transgender woman in the Amazon series Transparent, for the second year in a row.

There were surprises in the main acting categories with Tatiana Maslany winning Best Actress for her roles in Orphan Black and first-time nominee Rami Malek winning Best Actor for Mr Robot. Robot, ‘ for his portrayal of a troubled hacker.

“Games of Thrones”, the fantasy saga based on George R.R. Martin’s novels, received a total of 12 awards Sunday and at last weekend’s technical arts ceremony for a cumulative 38, besting “Frasier” by one to claim most prime-time series awards ever.

“There’s great stuff on network, there’s great stuff on cable”, said Alan Yang, who won a comedy writing award with Aziz Ansari for Netflix’s “Master of None”.

“He needs to be called out at every chance he gets for being one of the most risky monsters to ever approach our lifetimes”, Soloway told reporters backstage. In an emotional acceptance speech, Louis-Dreyfus paid tribute to her father, who passed away last Friday. “I think they’ve been rewarded with stuff that feels a little fresh”.

“So I certainly do promise to rebuild that wall and make Mexico pay for it”.

Maggie Smith, who had won three Emmys for playing the snarky and witty Dowager Countess on “Downton Abbey” — and been nominated for six more — won again in absentia for the final season of the PBS series. As has become her custom, she didn’t attend the ceremony. CBSLA’s Suzanne Marques was at L.A. Live’s Microsoft Theater and later at the post-Emmy parties.

Ben Mendelsohn of “Bloodline” won as best supporting drama actor and also was a no-show. The loss “makes a lot of sense”, Damon said.

“What a night for O.J.”, Kimmel said as the Simpson miniseries earned five trophies Sunday.

The other two awards for “GOT” are Writing for a Drama Series and Directing for a Drama Series.

Sarah Paulson, who played former O.J. Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark, brought Clark to the Emmys and apologized to her in front of millions for not being kind in the past.

Clark was not the “the two-dimensional cardboard cutout that I saw on the news” but a “whip-smart” woman dedicated to justice for the case’s victims, Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman.

Susanne Bier, the Danish director of the BBC’s spy thriller The Night Manager, won for best directing in a limited series.

Underlining how odd it can be to divide actors by gender, Anderson won for supporting actor in a comedy for playing the mother of Zach Galifianakis’ character.

“For me to be here as an atypical leading man”.

Unexpectedly flustered comedian: Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon, who declared, “I’m shaking, guys, as she accepted the Emmy for supporting actress in a comedy”. But she knew who to credit.

The Democratic presidential contender responded quickly with a tweet: “Congratulations on your Emmy, Kate! Big fan of yours, too”, with a photo of McKinnon in character as Clinton.

The ceremony started out with a political edge.

– onetime Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush, appearing in a comedy sketch as a limo driver for Kimmel, poking fun at his failed campaign. “Right? Are you rooting for O.J.to win this time?” Host Jimmy Kimmel even jokingly handed an Emmy to “Transparent” star Tambor at the outset of the show; he later got one for real. It revised how votes are cast and counted, switching from a ranking and points system to letting voters simply check off their top choice.
