Emmy Awards ratings hit new low
The disappointing Emmy numbers continue the downward slide of last year’s show on Fox, when Andy Samberg presided, and this year’s show will likely end up becoming the smallest Emmy audience in history, “beating” 1990’s broadcast for the record. The Emmys stood testimony to the fact that only does the Star English Entertainment Network strive to entertain its audiences in India but also endeavours to offer them with the best of English content.

“The People v. O.J. Simpson”, FX’s 10-hour dramatization of the former football player’s 1995 double murder trial and sensational acquittal won nine Emmys, including for best limited series and for actors Sarah Paulson, Courtney B. Vance and Sterling K. Brown.
Veteran shows dominated the awards at this year’s Emmys, which were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, with HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and “Veep” winning best drama and best comedy, respectively, for the second straight year. Actors, writers and directors of color featured big in multi-nominated shows like Master of None, The People v. O.J. Simpson, Black-ish, American Crime and Key & Peele – and many won, too. “Oh, my God. Please tell me you’re seeing this too”, Malek, who plays an emotionally troubled engineer caught up in a unsafe hacking conspiracy, said after winning the honour. “It’s called the Maggie Smith Rule”, he joked.
This was the second consecutive year that Game of Thrones came out on top in the drama category.
Tony Hale, who plays the president’s personal aide Gary Walsh in Veep, triumphed in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus Wins Lead Actress Comedy…
Kimmel had some other memorable moments throughout the show. “With the expansion of the many ways we watch television, I’m proud to be an actor on TV when TV is getting it right”.
Kate McKinnon, the Saturday Night Live star, won for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
Tatiana Maslany won a long-earned Emmy for lead actress in a drama for her role on BBC America’s “Orphan Black”.
After hearing that Dame Maggie Smith had never bothered to attend the Emmys, the last thing anyone probably expected of her was to release a reply to Jimmy Kimmel’s threat.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver surprised many, taking home “Outstanding Variety Talk Series”, stealing host Kimmel’s thunder – and Matt Damon made sure he felt the pain. Louis-Dreyfus won in the past for her roles on Seinfeld and The New Adventures of Old Christine.
