Game of Thrones broke the record for the highest number of Emmy Awards won by any fictional series, with its 38th trophy surpassing Frasier’s haul of 37, at the Hollywood ceremony celebrating the best global television.

Despite all the time, effort, cash, and tweets put into them, nearly all award shows are lost to history just a couple of days after they occur. This would be so much easier at the Oscars, ‘ said the Indian-American actor, who is Muslim, while picking up his award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. That equaled FX’s haul (of course buoyed by O.J.’s five big Ws) and dwarfed the two wins by Netflix.

For too long, both in the worldwide publishing world as well as the television industry, genres such as science-fiction, fantasy and speculative fiction has been relegated to the fringes of the mainstream, not quite in the running for major awards, notwithstanding the phenomenon of Harry Potter. “Any moment I have to call out Donald Trump as the inheritor to Hitler, I will”.

Louie Anderson was honored as best supporting actor in a comedy series for his portrayal of a loving but tough mom in “Baskets”. Master of None cowriter Adam Yang used his speech to advocate for Asian actors and filmmakers.

It’s now official: Game of Thrones has won more Emmys than any primetime TV show ever.

The Emmys began on a lighter moment with a amusing nod to some of TV’s biggest pop culture moments of the past year. Jeffrey Tambor’s trophy as top comedy actor for Transparent was his second. The Seinfeld alum won her fifth consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work as Selina Meyer on the HBO comedy Veep – and her eighth Emmy overall!

Kimmel was not the only one to pin Trump’s rise on reality TV. Really, really good shows are going to continue to lose in a category once considered a bit of an afterthought.

The cast of Stranger Things lit up the Emmys, handing out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the audience’s delight. It was a treat to see “SNL” alum Leslie Jones take the stage and voice the chaos she has experienced courtesy of social media.

Regina King won in the Oustanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie category for her performance as “Terri Lacroix” in ABC’s race-focused “American Crime”. It was her third win for playing the formidable dowager. And Paulson made a public apology to Marcia Clark for failing to recognize the former prosecutor not as a “complicated, whip-smart, giant-hearted mother of two. righting an unconscionable wrong”, but seeing her 20 years ago as the “two-dimensional cardboard cutout I saw on the news”. We all may have rightfully assumed Vance would win in Lead Actor in a Limited Series, but that multi-time victor Bryan Cranston didn’t snake it away from him is a step in the right direction.

Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or Drama: Susanne Bier, “The Night Manager“.

Host Jimmy Kimmel reenacted the famous O.J. Simpson chase down the 405 with Malcolm Jamal Warner, who played Al Cowlings in “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”. But even when falling back on those two overused tricks, this year’s Emmy ceremony managed to shake things up with, say, a freaky (but somehow perfect) cameo from Jeb Bush, and a welcome appearance from the kids of Stranger Things. Finally, the big awards of the night: DRAMA!

Martin allowed that there might be a possibility for another series somewhere down the line, noting, “I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to ‘Game of Thrones.’ There’s a lot of material there and I’m still writing more”. Supporting Actress in a Drama Series delivered another Emmy to Maggie Smith “Downton Abbey”. When her name was announced as victor, he walked on to the stage to take Dame Maggie’s trophy, saying: “No, no, no, no, no”.

It is the fifth time in a row Louis-Dreyfus has won the award for her role in the United States version of BBC comedy The Thick Of It. Kind of a surprise, as I was certain either Peter Dinklage or Kit Harrington from “Game of Thrones” would take the prize. When a network allows a competing late night host to join its own host in the opening segment of an award show, it’s even more apparent.

Actress, Drama Series: Tatiana Maslany, “Orphan Black“. Whether it’s the sheer numerical increase in programs (and thus great performance) or the altered voting rules (since past year, any Academy member can vote in any category), the 2016 Emmys just loved giving people their first trophies. Allow me to take you through the hits and misses of the night.

Thoughts'If it wasn’t for television would Donald Trump be running for president? No' said Kimmel, pointing out that Burnett put him on The Apprentice
