Speaking of the awards, Game Of Thrones did end up taking home a bunch of them (including Best Drama Series), with “Battle Of The Bastards” being honored presumably for how expensive it was and for how satisfying it was to finally see Ramsay Bolton get ripped apart by hungry dogs.

Tony Hale, who plays the president’s personal aide Gary Walsh in Veep, triumphed in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category. In her acceptance speech she said, “I’d also like to take this opportunity to personally apologise for the current political climate”.

“I think that “Veep” has torn down the wall between comedy and politics”.

The 55-year-old actress tearfully dedicated her acting Emmy to her father, who passed away on Friday.

Ansari and Yang, who are from Indian and Taiwanese descent, respectively, won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for the Master of None episode “Parents”.

Maggie Smith has responded to Jimmy Kimmel’s joke that he wouldn’t be passing on her Emmy Award after she missed the annual event. She is the second female SNL cast member to win an Emmy for her work on the show after Gilda Radner in 1978.

Supporting Actress, Comedy Series: Kate McKinnon, “Saturday Night Live”. Acting victor Vance, who sweetly thanked his wife onstage, said he’s ready to hand over his trophy to her. Key and Peele was awarded for the variety sketch category for their Comedy Central series, which ended after five seasons.

Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or Drama: Susanne Bier, “The Night Manager“. A healthy 20 producers, executive producers, co-executive producers, supervising producers and senior producers were invited to crowd the stage after The Voice picked up a statuette for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program.
