HBO’s ultimate hit “Game of Thrones” overtook the field on Thursday’s presentation of 68 Emmy Awards nominations, boasting a field leading 23 nominations for its 6 season. Besides, writers David Benioff and DB Weiss were also nominated. The acclaimed Bloodline got two acting nominations-Kyle Chandler (lead actor) and Ben Mendelsohn (supporting actor)-just a day after Netflix renewed the family drama for a third season.

The cast and crew of Game Of Thrones have responded to the show’s huge haul of Emmy nominations this year.

Twenty-three: That’s the number of nominations that Game of Thrones landed this year – it’s shy of NYPD Blue’s record of 27, sure, but staggering nonetheless. FX’s critically-beloved The Americans finally broke through and, for its third season, bagged its first drama series, actor (Matthew Rhys) and actress (Keri Russell) noms.

“Hi mama! I know you’re watching!” he said into the camera.

This year’s Drama and Comedy Series nominees include first-timers as well as returning programmes to the Emmy competition: “Black-ish” and “Master of None” are new in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, and “Mr. Robot” and “The Americans” in the Outstanding Drama Series competition.

For Stephen Colbert, it was the inaugural season of his CBS late-night show that was overlooked, while network colleague James Corden earned a best variety talk series bid for his “Late Late Show.”.

The fantasy drama earned the most awards in Emmy 2015 and could be this year’s massive victor again.

They, along with Black-ish, a nominee for comedy series and its actor Anthony Anderson and actress Tracy Ellis Ross, were part of an historic wave of diversity that puts the Motion Picture Academy to shame.

In addition to acting nominations, “Game of Thrones” also received Emmy nods for directing, writing, cinematography, costumes, visual effects, production design, stunts, editing, hairstyling, make-up and casting.

Lead nominations went to Cuba Gooding Jr.as Simpson, Courtney B. Vance as defense attorney Johnnie Cochran and Sarah Paulson as prosecutor Marcia Clark. The show is nominated for best drama series after it won that same category a year ago. Peter Dinklage, honored as last year’s best supporting actor as Tyrion Lannister, will defend his title, with a nod also going to Kit Harington as Jon Snow.

Maisie Williams, Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke will compete against one another for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series prize.
