Emmys 2015: The Daily Show wins Outstanding Variety Talk Series for its

Outstanding Variety Talk Series was one of the toughest categories of the night at the Emmys with three parting hosts, David Letterman, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart, all up for the award – however, it was Stewart who walked away with the golden statue.

Other nominations in the Variety Talk Series were: “The Colbert Report”, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!“, “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver“, “The Late Show With David Letterman” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallona”. “To everybody on television, I just want to tell you, cling to it as long as you can”, he joked.

Though several episodes of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart will technically be eligible for the Emmys next year (including the final episode hosted by Stewart), it’s hard to see Comedy Central campaigning for the show at next year’s awards, particularly if new host Trevor Noah gets off to a strong start. Jill Soloway, who based the series on the life of her own “moppa”, as she calls her parent, used her directing trophy acceptance speech to ask for equal rights for transgender individuals.

The Emmy Awards kicked off Sunday after stars walked a sweltering red carpet at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles. “You will never have to see me again”, Stewart said.

King of “American Crime” won supporting actress honors for a limited series. “The Voice” won for outstanding reality competition series, its second Emmy win in the category.

“So many shows, so little”, he sang, before entering a “TV viewing bunker” to binge-view on all the nominated shows.
