Emmys 2016: See the celebrity fashion photos

Host Jimmy Kimmel opened the show with a string of jokes about Republican presidential contender and former “Celebrity Apprentice” host Donald Trump, and former football star O.J. Simpson, whose 1995 double murder trial and acquittal was dramatized in “The People v. O.J. Simpson”, which is expected to be a big victor. “So I certainly do promise to rebuild that wall and make Mexico pay for it”. In earning its 38th Emmy, “Game of Thrones” broke the record for total wins of any scripted series.

For the second year in a row, HBO’s “Game of Thrones” won best drama and the network’s “Veep” took best comedy.

But the top drama acting trophies were far from predictable: Rami Malek of “Mr. Robot” and Tatiana Maslany of “Orphan Black” were the winners, both overcoming heavyweight competition.

Maggie Smith was honored as best supporting actress in a drama series for the final season of “Downton Abbey”.

But despite her many nominations and victories, the great lady has never actually attended an Emmy ceremony.

When Smith was later awarded the title for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama – increasing her award count to four – Kimmel grabbed her Emmy and said, “No, no, no!”

Sterling K Brown beat his co-stars John Travolta and David Schwimmer from The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story to win best supporting actor in a limited series or movie. Unfortunately, the series and its main actor-actress duo, Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell, did not win any Emmys, but Margo Martindale did win an Emmy for her role in the series.

John Oliver won best variety talk series for his HBO series Last Week Tonight.

Ghostbusters star Kate McKinnon was named outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for her performances in long-running sketch show Saturday Night Live.

“Did you know you could make $12 an hour working for Uber?” a game Bush said, smiling.

“Thank you, Ellen DeGeneres, thank you, Hillary Clinton”, she said, naming two of the famous people she’s caricatured on the show.

Kimmel went on to blame Apprentice creator and producer Mark Burnett for Donald Trump’s rise to the Republican presidential nominee.
