Emmys 2016: The 10 biggest snubs and shocking surprises
HBO also won outstanding drama for “Game of Thrones“. Fellow HBO series “Veep” was named top comedy for the second straight year and that show’s star, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, won best comedy actress for the fifth straight time and a record-setting sixth time in her career.

“Games of Thrones”, the fantasy saga based on George R.R. Martin’s novels, received a total of 12 awards Sunday and at last weekend’s technical arts ceremony for a cumulative 38, besting “Frasier” by one to claim most prime-time series awards ever.
No shade to Transparent and Veep, but the Emmys really couldn’t find room for the best comedy on network television?
Amid the deja vu, a few newcomers made it to the podium.
Susanne Bier won for directing the AMC limited series The Night Manager, breaking The People v. O.J. Simpson’s stranglehold on the limited series category.
We just don’t get how anyone would voluntarily want to skip iconic moments, such as…
Louis-Dreyfus, when accepting the award for best actress in a comedy, deadpanned that Veep had taken down the wall between comedy and politics, then promised “to rebuild that wall and make Mexico pay for it”.
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to personally apologize for the current political climate”.
“When you take women, people of color, trans people, queer people, and you put them at the center of the story, the subjects instead of the objects, you change the world”, Soloway said in her speech.
“When Maggie Smith finds out she’s been awarded with an Emmy she has the same reaction we get when we get Bed Bath And Beyond coupons in the mail”.
Kimmel finally got a ride from former presidential candidate Jeb Bush, who claimed to be working as an Uber driver.
“That guy”, he said, pointing to Burnett. She’s treating us like the People’s Choice Awards. These were the most notable ones. Final numbers should come in shortly after that; TheWrap will report both. The entire series is streaming on Amazon Prime.
Kimmel praised the year’s offerings, saying “after 68 years, television still manages to surprise us”, while Television Academy chief executive Bruce Rosenblum asserted that “television dominates the global entertainment landscape”. On Monday, she shared a message via the Masterpiece PBS Twitter account.
Once Smith won her fourth Emmy and wasn’t there to accept, Kimmel joked that it would be in the lost and found if she wanted it.

But despite her many nominations and victories, the great lady has never actually attended an Emmy ceremony. She goes to the Soul Train Awards every year.
