Emmys 2016: Watch Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Heartfelt Speech for ‘Veep’ Win

If Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Emmy win had a familiar ring, it was because the 55-year-old actress made history Sunday night. The “Veep” star picked up the outstanding lead actress in a comedy statue for the fifth year in a row Sunday. Receiving the award for best director for a comedy series, Ms Soloway denounced the presidential candidate’s immigration policies.

In the hotly competitive limited series category, the FX standout, “The People v. O.J. Simpson” which garnered 22 nominations, often came up a victor – as expected.

Richard then took the opportunity to slam The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for never recognising him with an Emmy Award, despite his prolific career on the small screen including his recent portrayal of swindler Bernie Madoff in mini-series Madoff.

On the red carpet, Judith Light was being fully transparent when she told bleacher fans how hard it is to walk a red carpet in heels. “I think “Veep” has torn down the wall between comedy and politics”, she said.

Brown was emotional on stage when he accepted his Emmy. “I would not be unhappy were I the last cisgender male to play a female transgender on television”, said Tambor.

The series also won a writing Emmy for D.V. DeVincentis.

For this year’s awards, Golden Globe-winning “Mr. Robot”, a conspiracy thriller about a troubled hacker, is vying for the top drama series award and best actor honors for star Rami Malek. “I feel like we have a lot more story to tell too”. “And the unfortunate thing is, I’m not sure how many of us would want to hang out with a guy like Elliot”.

“I’m between jobs right now”, Bush explained. “Because there’s a little bit of Elliot in all of us, isn’t there?” During her acceptance speech, she apologized to her producers and crew for talking them into working on the show.

With her win, Louis-Dreyfus now stands in second place for all time with seven acting Emmys.

Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn garnered the prize for supporting actor in a drama (“Bloodlines”).

Her hand trembling, the “Seinfeld” and “Saturday Night Live” alum dedicated the award to her father, businessman William Louis-Dreyfus, who died Friday, “because his opinion was the only one that really mattered”.

Accepting an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy, the Veep star issued a “personal apology” for today’s political climate and made light of Donald Trump’s proposal to build a wall at the U.S. -Mexico border.
