Hail to the chief, again: Julia Louis-Dreyfus is officially an eight-time Emmy award victor, having snagged her latest statuette for her work on HBO’s Veep.
Louis also had a brief cameo in host Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue playing her “Veep” character.
On a lighter note in her speech, Julia – whose win was her record-breaking sixth in the category – sparked laughs as she compared the current United States political landscape to that shown in her satirical TV show.
“I’d like to dedicate this to my father. who passed away on Friday”, she said.
“If it wasn’t for television, would Donald Trump be running for president?”
“While I’m apologizing, I’d like to take this opportunity to personally apologize for the current political climate”. HBO’s sharp political satire Veep once again took home the award for Outstanding Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards. Kimmel continued. “I’m going on the record right now. if Donald Trump gets elected and he builds that wall, the first person we’re throwing over it is Mark Burnett”. Even though the win was such a happy moment for Julia, she was clearly devastated over the heartbreaking loss of her billionaire businessman father.
After graciously thanking the cast and crew of the HBO comedy, she, of course, made an apropos joke that touched upon this year’s unusual election.
Clinton was among those she thanked in her acceptance speech.
More: And the best quotes from the Emmys are.
“Mr. Robot” will be vying with last year’s formidable champion, “Game of Thrones”, this year’s most-nominated show. But she knew who to credit.
Meanwhile, the driver tells him to hop in, and it’s none other than former presidential candidate and ex-Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
