Emory’s nursing, business, medical schools among nation’s best

In rankings released for its 2017 Best Graduate Schools, U.S.News & World Report positions the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy ninth among the nation’s more than 130 schools of pharmacy.

Not only is the University of Texas at Austin the best public school in the country, it’s home to a host of top graduate programs – 37 to be exact. The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill placed second, followed by UC – San Francisco, the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Its Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program is ranked No. 7, up a spot from 2016.

Fontaine said as the school rebuilds its research capacity in the coming years, she looks forward to programs becoming ever better, stronger and more highly ranked.

Among the top engineering programs are biological and agricultural engineering at sixth place, industrial and manufacturing takes the seventh spot and electrical and mechanical engineering ranked eighth in the country.

Walton’s rigorous graduate program starts with a solid foundation in the core business disciplines of economics, accounting, finance, quantitative analysis, management, marketing and supply chain management.

The School of Business rose up seven spots to No. 51, the second year in a row the masters of business administration program went up by so many spots. It is included in the ranking of graduate science programs, under earth sciences, and that ranking was not done this year.

U.S. News last reviewed public affairs programs in 2012, when the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs moved to No. 2, ahead of similar schools at Harvard, Princeton and other major universities. Because each graduate program is different, the rankings methodology varies across disciplines.

In addition, the school was named the “Most Innovative Nursing Graduate Program in the U.S.” by Best Master of Science in Nursing Degrees, and ranks #1 among nursing schools for Federal Research Grants and National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding.

The IU McKinney School of Law at IUPUI also was ranked by U.S. News, 100th overall and 54th among public universities.

U.S. News first published a reputation-only graduate school ranking in 1987.

Iowa State losses include its College of Engineering, which dropped to No. 48 from No. 43, and its College of Business, which moved to No. 71 from No. 63. “This is in alignment with the University’s vision of advancing knowledge and serving the world through research, scholarship and innovation”.

The U.S. News & World Report rankings are conducted annually and are determined through a weighted average of factors including peer review, student selectivity and assessment, faculty resources, and research activity.
