Competing in just his fourth race of the year and sixth Trucks event of his career, Moffitt earned his first career national series win Saturday at MI thanks to his last-lap pass of Red Horse Racing teammate Timothy Peters for the lead. Elliott had a comfortable lead before a tire problem on Michael Annett’s vehicle brought out the yellow flag. But given the promise, the expectations, and yes, the hype that has followed Larson everywhere, many had grown impatient for that breakthrough win. This was his 99th race in Sprint Cup, and Larson became the third first-time victor of the weekend for all three of NASCAR’s national traveling series.

Larson also secured a spot in the 10-race Chase for the Championship with two races left in the regular season.

“(Restarts are) obviously not a strong point, at least not here at Michigan, ” Chase Elliott said.

“Just made another mistake”, Elliott, the 20-year-old son of Hall of Famer Bill Elliott, said.

“Probably half the tracks are some of my best race tracks”, Larson said.

On the flip side, I really feel bad for Chase Elliott. And my guys a good job of of seeing this new air pack it in trying to.

A late caution gave Larson, restarting second, one final chance, and thanks to an assist from Brad Keselowski on the inside line, the wait was finally over. The caution gave him another shot, though, and he took advantage.

This was the third race run with this aero package, which we’ll use in 2017.

Beyond the historical element added, the best thing about races at Darlington is the 1.366-mile egg-shaped oval that features high banks and with four different corners. Larson led 41 laps for the afternoon and was among the leaders all race long.

Formula One: Nico Rosberg won the Belgian Grand Prix, racing unchallenged from the pole at Spa-Francorchamps, but Mercedes teammate and title rival Lewis Hamilton stole the show by charging from the last row on the grid to finish third. Larson, who frequently competed against Clauson as both men developed their careers on local dirt tracks, dedicated his win to the departed driver’s family in victory lane. But that’s only if Buescher stays in the top 30, which is in doubt after Sunday.

Also struggling was Alex Bowman, driving for the sidelined Dale Earnhardt Jr in the 88 auto.

The Chip Gnassi driver earned a slot in the Chase for the first time in his career.

Harvick finished fifth at MI and maintained the lead in the Sprint Cup points standings. That means Buescher still has two more races to keep himself in the top 30.

Knoxville native Trevor Bayne sat at 24 to start the day and finished in the same spot. “We’ve been on the cusp for so many years”. “Had two opportunities to get out front there and kind of control the race”. He led the second most circuits behind the race victor Kyle Larson (37).

INSPECTION: Keselowski’s No. 2 Ford failed post-race laser inspection. Elliott, who is also looking for his first victory, finished second.

During the victory celebrations, Larson was congratulated by several other drivers, including six-time champion Jimmie Johnson and reigning Sprint Cup champion Kyle Busch. Kasey Kahne was in fifth at that point.
