Since many panel members also vote in the cinema Academy Awards, the nominees for the SAG Awards have traditionally served as an indicator of what could happen at the Oscars.

The winners will be announced at a televised awards ceremony in Los Angeles on January 30.
The first signs of awards season are nominee announcements, and there’s cause to celebrate in the Straight Outta Compton camp.
With both Beasts and the hit N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton scoring ensemble cast nominations, the diversity problem that plagued the SAGs and awards season in general past year is less pronounced.
Leading female performance nominees included Cate Blanchett (“Carol”), Brie Larson (“Room”) and Saoirse Ronan (“Brooklyn”), all of whom have dominated awards buzz, but also Sarah Silverman (“I Smile Back”) and Helen Mirren (“Woman in Gold”). Spotlight is nominated in the outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture category, which is the SAG equivalent to the Oscar’s best picture category.
In the best actor category, Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for his work in the movie “The Revenant“, while Michael Fassbender made the cut for the title role in “Steve Jobs“, as did Eddie Redmayne for his work in the movie “The Danish Girl”.
Other films receiving two nominations for solo performers include Carol, The Danish Girl, Room and Steve Jobs.
Shannon, who plays a nasty businessman in the little-seen but well-reviewed “99 Homes“, was well down a list of possible nominees on GoldDerby.com’s board.
Universal Pictures collected six nominations – three ahead of any other studio – for SAG honors, which are generally considered a strong predictor of who will score Oscar nominations. Many were offended when all the 2015 Oscars acting nominees were white.
