‘Empire’ Season 2 trailer brings the glorious return of Cookie Lyon
But the show is already drumming up excitement for fans, and released a new teaser on Wednesday. (Did you see the “Free Lucious” banners in that concert scene?) But who’s that striding through the halls of Empire Entertainment alongside Cookie, Hakeem, and Andre?

Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) has a look of utter disdain on her face as she glances up at her former husband, while sitting in the jail’s visitation area.
We know that when Empire returns it will be three months after the events of the finale, when Lucious was arrested for killing Bucky and Jamal was given control of his father’s company.
It’s quite a change from how the series kicked off, with Cookie getting out of prison after serving a 17-year sentence for drug dealing. The snippet also shows the Lyon matriarch in some kind of cage (filming a music video, perhaps?). We have your first look at season 2.
In addition to its September 23 premiere, Empire Season 2 will expand to 18 episodes, up from the first run’s 12, and structured in two halves with a major cliffhanger between.

Season 2 of “Empire” amps up the drama even more – yeah, it’s possible – with guest appearances by Marisa Tomei, Kelly Rowland (as Lucious’s mom in flashbacks), Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, and Lenny Kravitz.
