Empire’s TCA panel today gave us a preview of season 2, including a trailer, new images, and spinoff news from co-creator Lee Daniels.

The Grio reports that a Detroit woman is suing Empire creators, claiming she’s the real ‘Cookie Lyon.’ Sophia Eggleston hopes to cash in on the popularity of the feisty lead character on the popular Fox show played by Taraji P. Hensen.

Eggleston uses examples of why she thinks she is the inspiration behind Cookie.

Eggleston said she wrote her story in a memoir titled “The Hidden”.

Eggleston is not the only person to claim that “Empire” is not an original idea.

When the show aired in 2015, Eggleston, who served time in prison for manslaughter after placing a “hit” on a man, claimed that she was “dismayed” to see that character Cookie Lyon “was similar in behavior, style of dress, and background”.

“Cookie was a drug kingpin that went to jail. So did plaintiff Eggleston”, her lawyer says. “Plaintiff…actually was jailed for doing the actual hit on a man”.

“There is no possibility the similarities are… mere coincidence”.

Is it a legit claim? In the new season-two trailer, released Thursday, Andre (Trai Byers) is determined to remove Lucious as CEO of the company, as is his mother, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson). In addition, Kelly Rowland, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Adam Rodriguez will be appearing next season.
