Starting this season, the Utah Jazz will be playing in an arena with a new name.
EnergySolutions Arena is making way for Vivint Smart Home Arena.
Terms of the Jazz deal were not disclosed and Alex Dunn, Vivint president, said the company didn’t believe it was big enough to require disclosing it in federal regulatory filings. It was renamed EnergySolutions Arena on November 20, 2006.
The building has played host to the 1993 National Basketball Association All-Star Weekend, two National Basketball Association Finals, the 1999 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, as well as figure skating and short track speed skating events at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. The arena has featured a few of the biggest names in the music world with Garth Brooks, U2, Taylor Swift and The Rolling Stones among the largest concert draws in the arena’s history. There have been $25 million in upgrades to the facility in the last five years.
Energy Solutions, the current naming rights partner, will continue as a Champion Partner with the Utah Jazz.
“For us, it was about making sure we take the partnership to the next level”, Dunn said, “and that we establish ourselves as one of the great Utah companies”. “Good people work in (the Miller) organization”, he said. Vivint and LHMSE officials know that the full name of the stadium, Vivint Smart Home Stadium, is somewhat of a mouthful, but Vivint felt it was important to add the “Smart Home” portion of the name in order to effectively introduce their company to a national audience.
