England’s Hodgson vindicated for attack-minded squad selection

Each team has 23 players, in those 23, there’ll be a lot of players who feel hard done by when not selected and feel maybe they should’ve been selected. Sometimes you’re okay, other occasions you think “oh my there is no energy left in my legs here”.

Roy Hodgson is delighted with both Wayne Rooney’s midfield displays and how the England captain is confounding the doubters at Euro 2016.

“I said before the game we respect Wales as a nation and as a football team”.

Bale made them pay with a free-kick from 28 yards that was too hot for Joe Hart to handle and England were booed off at the break.

A deserved success for the Three Lions, that controled the game for 90′ but didn’t materialize all the chances they got, especially in the first half: Sterling missed an incredible one in front of the goal on a super fast Lallana’s counter attack at minute 7.

But England laid siege to the Wales goal for most of the second half, equalising through Jamie Vardy in the 56th minute before snatching all three points late on through Sturridge. “There is no better way to win a game than scoring in the last minute”.

“England did it. They conceded in the last minute against Russian Federation and showed good courage to get back in the second game – and we have to do the same”. “He saw the way the game was going and made changes at half-time”.

“That headache was always going to exist”.

“Harry was looking a bit exhausted, I thought, in the course of the first half”.

England now face Slovakia in their final match, with Wales taking on Russian Federation. “That’s because that goal the other night put us under a bit of pressure”, said Hodgson, referring back to the Russian Federation game.

Competing in their first major tournament since 1958, Chris Coleman’s Wales will join England in the last 16 if they defeat Russian Federation. “I haven’t felt as disappointed as that too many times in my career”.

“We have to put it to bed and get ready for Russian Federation now”.

“We have to get over it, as England showed good courage to get over it when they drew with Russian Federation”.

England’s Daniel Sturridge is unsure if his heroics against Wales will be enough to earn him a start against Slovakia on Monday.

“You could sense it”, said the Manchester United player.

“Watching France play Albania last night, I think it was a similar situation when Pogba and Griezmann came on the field”.
