England striker Harry Kane keen for Jamie Vardy partnership to flourish

“Whoever the manager wants to pick, we will be ready to go and try to score as many goals as we can”, Kane said at the squad’s Midlands training base.

But after Tottenham dropped a two-goal lead at Chelsea to draw 2-2, handing the league title to Leicester, Vardy responded with a picture of a scene from the Lion King where Mufasa is falling into an oncoming stampede.

Kane is expected to start alongside Vardy in attack against Turkey at the Etihad Stadium, with Rashford, Rooney and Sturridge all unavailable due to club commitments.

Ranked three places below England in 13th, Turkey has named a 31-man provisional squad, which head coach Terim will have to trim significantly after this friendly and next week’s match with Montenegro in Antalya have been played.

“We’re concentrating on England now”.

Both men are brimming with confidence given their recent achievements, but Kane says they have avoided repeating their recent bout of light-hearted social media sparring.

“It was just a bit of banter between fellow professionals – I gave him a bit on Instagram, so if you’re happy to dish it out, you’ve got to take it, haven’t you?”

“Throughout the whole global year we’ve been playing well, we’ve been going out and trying to play good football”.

“These are people with enormous CVs and enormous records having won things, whereas we are talking about players, at the moment, who have had a good Premier League season”.

His 25 goals for Spurs in the Premier League meant that he finished one ahead of Vardy and Sergio Aguero, and the best outcome in France this summer, he agreed, would be another golden boot to add to the collection.

“If we are playing together it will be very exciting”, said Kane, the victor of the Golden Boot award after scoring 25 goals this past term (via BBC Sport). I know the manager spoke about that – getting a better mentality. “If you asked any fan or any player, they’d have said the same”.

“I’m really excited. It’s a great, young squad”. Throughout the whole global year we’ve been playing well, we’ve been going out and trying to play good football. We’re here and we’re excited to get going.

“Yeah, it’s disappointing that we didn’t finish off strong, but it’s a learning curve and we’ll be there next season to go again”.

This is his first major global tournament and, like all young English footballers, he is not jaded by past experience. “Now the season is over, we’re itching to get out there, to see what it’s like and to get going”.

“Maybe we should look forward more to what these young players could possibly do for us, rather than to expect them to suddenly take some revenge for the fact that the 2014 tournament was not highly regarded in terms of our performance”.

Roy Hodgson is preparing for his third tournament with England and should have learned from two years ago
