England v Pakistan: Tourists fined for slow Oval over rate

Pakistan Test captain Misbahul Haq was fined 20% of his match fee due to the slow over rate during the final day’s play at The Oval, Express News reported on Monday.

Earlier, England were bowled out for a total of 253 runs in the 2nd innings setting Pakistan a target of 40 runs.

The action between Pakistan and England will now shift to the five-match One-day worldwide series, which will commence on 24th August after the visitors complete their short two-ODI trip to Ireland.

Pakistan showed real character to bounce back from their Edgbaston defeat and level the series with England, says Misbah-ul-Haq.

Meanwhile England are due to announced on Tuesday their squad for a five-match one-day global series against Pakistan starting next week.

Australia captain Steve Smith was presented with the ICC Test mace prior to the first Test in Kandy for his side’s position at the top of the rankings following the year-long qualifying period that ended April 1.

Skipper Alastair Cook admits England have areas to improve on before they can contemplate assuming the status of the world’s No1 Test side after the hosts slumped to a 10-wicket hammering against Pakistan at the Kia Oval.

For Pakistan, it was a special win, keeping in mind it was Independence Day. “It’s a fair result (of the series) in the end”.

Azhar smashed Moeen for a huge six to take Pakistan to 42-0 and clinch victory, punching the air in delight before leaving the field with Aslam to warm applause from the sun-baked crowd.

Chris Woakes was run out following a mix-up with Bairstow, who drove the next delivery from Wahab Riaz straight to extra cover, his departure for 81 ending any realistic chance of England saving the match.

Cook, who had previously spoken about returning to the top of the rankings during his career, will discuss his future with England’s director of cricket Andrew Strauss, as this would be a good high point in his career to step down.

Hales has yet to score a century in 11 Tests and has a meagre average of 27.

Warner was dismissed in the fourth over, caught behind off spinner Dhananjaya de Silva. “After being 2-1 down, losing the second Test badly and losing the third”. “I urge all our supporters/ fans to come out tomorrow with the flags and support us to the last ball.” said Younis Khan.

“Consistently over the summer we haven’t scored enough runs as a batting group”, said the 31-year-old, whose 423 runs in the series was the second-most from either team, after Joe Root’s 512. “Coming into the summer my Test cricket record probably wasn’t what I’d quite like it to be”.

“Once this test match is finished, sitting back and learning as much as we can from what we’ve done through this series and take that into the big series we’ve got later on in India”, Starc said. Their partnership lasted almost 5-1/2 hours.

And even the bowlers have not come to the rescue.
