England will be okay without Anderson, says Broad
Anderson suffered a calf strain on Monday evening and underwent a scan to assess the problem on the next day.

Fittingly, Cook brought up the milestone in the same game that James Anderson became the first England bowler to take 400 Test wickets.
With an impressive haul of six wickets against South Africa A in a warm-up match, Finn is the most likely candidate to come in and join Stuart Broad in the pace attack.
But Broad’s involvement in the tour of South Africa will end after the conclusion of the four-match Test series after he was omitted from the one-day and T20 squads to face the Proteas in 2016.
While Anderson would be a huge loss, England can at least take heart from the last time he failed a fitness test prior to a big match.
He had been forced to pull out of England’s test series against Pakistan in October after suffering a bone-stress injury in his left foot. “We will have to play some strong cricket, be disciplined and play at our best if we are going to compete with them”, Root said this week.
“They never once let me settle and knocked me around, which was tough, but I felt like I learned so much from the UAE than I had done in the last couple of years before that”.
Anderson, now aged 33 and a veteran of 110 Tests, was also forced out of the Ashes series at the halfway point due to a side strain.
With 110 caps worth of experience and a national record of 426 wickets Anderson’s unavailability is a considerable setback for England, particularly on a surface where early breakthroughs will be essential.
England’s two warm up games have gone well, with all of the expected top six scoring runs.
“We’ve got a good squad of bowlers on this tour and if it gets to that we’ve got plenty of cover”.
“All our talk within our group has been focused on us and what we have to do to win here”.
It was with Anderson that Cook shared a long-haul dash across three continents to make his Test debut against India at Nagpur back in 2006.
England’s preparation for the Test series against South Africa had appeared to be progressing remarkably smoothly.

“It is a bit different and, of course, you’d love Jimmy to be in the XI, but he’s not and we’ll cope with that”. South Africa will welcome back Dale Steyn with open arms, being the number 1 bowler in test cricket, he looks to maintain his position against his closest rivals.
