English Premier League to have new logo from next season

Regardless of what it looked like, the clever people who came up with the newly redesigned Premier League logo must have been aware their work was going to get some stick.

Alongside the new logo, the Premier League has also announced closer ties with primary schools, insisting there will be a link-up with every one in England by 2021-22.

The change represents the Premier League’s first visual rebrand since 2006.

The multi-coloured new design sees the Premier League move away from title sponsorship – it will be known as “the Premier League” from next season, rather than the “Barclays Premier League”.

By dropping its title sponsor, the Premier League is bringing itself in line with major American sporting competitions such as the NFL and National Basketball Association.

The League also said “an extensive consultation process took place as part of the new identity which included consulting fans”.

Now known as the Barclays Premier League, no prefix will be carried next season and alternative sponsorship methods will be used.

The Premier League have revealed their new visual identity for the 2016/17 season – and it looks very similar to the old visual identity.

Premier League chiefs insist they could have brought on board a new headline sponsor but have chose to move in a different direction and are able to do so because of the new £5billion TV deal.
