Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has been named men’s World Coach of the Year for 2015 at the annual Ballon d’Or ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland.

Manchester United, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich had won three major competitions in a season before – as had Barcelona, under Pep Guardiola – but the Blaugrana are now the only team to pull off the feat on two occasions.

Enrique led the Catalans to only their second ever Liga-Copa del Rey-UEFA Champions League treble, before adding the UEFA Super Cup to his collection.

Spearheaded by an attack of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, Enrique’s side ended the previous campaign having chalked up a remarkable 50 wins.

Barcelona technical secretary Robert Fernandez accepted the award on Enrique’s behalf, with the 45-year-old unable to attend the event because of his demanding schedule.

English-born Jill Ellis, coach of the American team that won last year’s World Cup in Canada, took the women’s award.
