In an effort to ensure that America’s public lands continue to be enjoyed for generations to come, the National Environmental Education Foundation is encouraging Americans to volunteer some time on September 24 to pick up trash in parks, pull weeds, work on public park trails and more.

Trail fix and cleanup activities are planned across the state, including two at Northern Colorado public lands.
Local residents can enter or park free at Joshua Tree National Park, recreation areas in the San Bernardino National Forest that normally require the U.S. Forest Service Adventure Pass, and destinations farther afield including Sequoia & Kings Canyon, Yosemite and Death Valley national parks.
Thousands of volunteers are expected to support the more than 80 USACE projects participating in this year’s National Public Lands Day, the largest annual volunteer hands-on restoration activity of its kind. “This day of service and helps to improve the condition and splendor of our public lands for the greater enjoyment of all who care to visit or live here”. USACE manages more than 400 lake and river projects in 43 states.

In recognizing the importance of building partnerships that combine a love of the outdoors and volunteering, Governor Bill Haslam has declared September 24, 2016 Tennessee Public Lands Day.
