A lot of people were on their way when nearly half the mountain fell on the road and then into the river.
There was a massive traffic jam on both sides of the National Highway as a result of the landslide. “The hill (where the landslide occurred) is being examined before the area is cleared for movement of traffic”, said a district official.
Mandi district authorities claimed that traffic was partially restored for small vehicles through diversions on alternate roads.
The Highway was opened last night but fresh slides blocked the road again, following which the Public Works Department (PWD) engineers and workers resumed road clearing operations in the early hours today, officials said.
The location where the landslide took place was only few meters away from the place where 24 engineering students were washed away in the flash flood previous year.

“We may be able to clear the roads for light vehicles by the evening but it may cause risk as boulders are still rolling down”, he added.
