Eoin Morgan admits their bowlers did not hit right length

Centuries from openers Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla have guided South Africa to a seven-wicket victory over England that keeps alive their hopes of winning the five-match series of one-day internationals. Thus the hosts narrowed the deficit to 2-1 with two to play.

“If you look back to the last game (in Port Elizabeth), we looked pretty threatening in the first 10 overs, and nearly set the tone for the innings”.

Asked if he could be about to make his return, Bayliss said: “Yes”.

“We’ve got a lot of positive things to look at throughout this series anyway”.

“So we’ll consider it again, yes”.

“If I’m picked to play out there I would love to show what I can do and show what skills I have on that stage”.

This highveld venue, where the ball famously flies so far off the bat because of the 4,000 feet of altitude, is universally associated with huge limited-overs scores.

Up here on the high veldt at the Wanderers, the ball will fly through the thinner air as if turbo-powered by more than just players on three Shredded Wheat – and that means giant scores.

The seam bowler, who was omitted from England’s 15-man squad for the upcoming World Twenty20 on Wednesday, was added to the ODI party following injuries to Steven Finn and Liam Plunkett.

In his last appearance in this ground, Broad produced figures of 17 for six in the second innings to help England come from behind and win the third Test and seal the series as well.

Root believes, if selected, Broad will be a significant asset.

England did not play poorly on Tuesday.

While India’s Test captain is considered as one of the best modern day batsmen, Quinton de Kock is making a habit of beating Kohli to certain landmarks.

But number eight Morris cashed in to make 62, after being badly dropped by Adil Rashid, with some brilliant late hitting as South Africa won with 16 balls to spare and levelled the series at 2-2.

I have played in a few games like that before.

Topley made his England debut, at home to Australia, less than six months ago – and has slotted in quickly to a team determined, under Eoin Morgan, to put last winter’s embarrassingly early World Cup exit firmly in the past.

The penultimate ODI is in Johannesburg on Friday, and Morgan insists their confidence will not suffer because of the defeat.
