EPA Didn’t Enforce Flint Drinking Water Violations: CRS
The revelation comes one week after Flint Mayor Karen Weaver announced that she meant to begin overhauling the city’s corroded pipes as soon as possible – and as she rejected a plan from Snyder to determine if any of the city’s damaged water system can be saved with a special coating.

“This project is the complete mapping of all of the known service line data of 56,000 homes and business in city of Flint”, Marty Kaufman, chairman of the Earth and Resource Science Department at the University of Michigan-Flint, said today.
The state is providing bottled water and filters to residents and recently awarded a $500,000 contract to Rowe Professional Services of Flint to study the city’s underground infrastructure for potential pipe replacement.
But only 4,376 have been identified so far, illustrating a major hurdle to locating and removing all the pipes at the center of the city’s water crisis.
“What happened in Flint is a tragedy, and the people who are affected deserve answers”, Cotter, R-Mount Pleasant, said in a statement.

Bullock said a grassroots recall effort has symbolic significance, but he wouldn’t rule out other methods – such as the use of paid signature collectors – if money materialized.
Two streets over, 70-year-old Walter Johnson said he wants his lead pipes replaced.
Michigan’s Legislature passed a bill Tuesday to give Flint residents $30 million to help offset their water bills.
The board approved the petition Monday from the Rev. David Bullock of Detroit.
“There are other adverse effects on health attributable to lead exposure, including but not limited to hematological, cardiovascular, immunological, and endocrine”. Residential customers would still have to pay for water used to flush toilets or do laundry.
Flint’s drinking water became contaminated in April 2014, when the city was under the control of a state-appointed emergency manager.
