Now many members of Congress from both parties, along with Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, are demanding answers from Mylan. But once their insurance plan reboots in January, the cost will be astronomical.

Mylan’s website stated the company was “taking immediate action” to help consumers manage the increase. “All involved must also take steps to help meaningfully address the USA health care crisis, and we are committed to do our part to drive change in collaboration with policymakers, payers, patients and health care professionals”.

“I think we have an obligation to the American people to do our job regardless of who is related to who at a company”, Klobuchar told reporters.

“I was recently involved in an initiative to raise awareness for anaphylaxis. I know him very well”.

The manufacturer, Mylan Pharmaceuticals, has come under fire for alleged price-gouging.

According to EpiPen.com, the medicinal device has been on the market for more than 25 years, and more than 60 million EpiPen auto-injectors have been dispensed.

“Nothing else in my life has increased that much in price, why the EpiPen?” said Connell.

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and Sen. None is likely to hit the US market until well into next year.

Klobuchar was one of a bi-partisan group of senators who this week also called on the Food and Drug Administration to answer questions on its process for approving alternatives to the EpiPen, which could help drive down prices. An additional $334 goes to pharmacy benefit managers, insurers, wholesalers and pharmacy retailers. Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut, said in a statement.

Mylan has said that many people get EpiPens with no out-of-pocket cost. But she added that “it’s wrong when drug companies put profits ahead of patients, raising prices without justifying the value behind them”.

Joining scores of people outraged over the price hike of the EpiPen, Sarah Jessica Parker will no longer be associated with the drugmaker who manufactures it.

Why is the EpiPen so expensive now? Can consumers get any help?
