EPL: Chadli scores twice as West Brom bash Hammers 4-2

Slaven Bilic blasted his West Ham side after their 4-2 Premier League defeat to West Brom, saying he was “embarrassed” by their display.

The Hammers had nearly three quarters of the possession yet conceded four goals for the second match in a row after Watford overturned their 2-0 lead at the London Stadium last weekend.

“West Brom deserved it”.

8 – PENALTY TO WEST BROM – A cross by Phillips which goes to the far post is met by Arthur Masuaku who is judged to have handled by referee Mark Clattenburg who points to the spot.

“If they didn’t get the fourth goal they would begin to get nervous”.

Yunyi Guokai Sports Development Limited, led by Chinese entrepreneur Guochuan Lai, completed their protracted takeover of the Premier League club on Thursday and their reign got off to a memorable start.

The Baggies raced into a four-goal lead thanks to a brace from Nacer Chadli and a goal apiece from Salomon Rondon and James McClean.

The manager’s changes at half-time worked well, though, with Jonathan Calleri and Sofiane Feghouli providing more attacking impetus, but as West Ham pushed for a way back into the game, they were susceptible to the counter-attack, as Rondon proved in sprinting clear to set up Chadli unselfishly for his second. We’ve had a few at the start of the season and we have a problem. “I know that we have a problem and I am the manager and I have to do everything to turn this around, solve that problem”.

But it got worse before it got better for the Hammers, with West Brom going further in front after 56 minutes.

“We reacted good after half-time, we let them score an unbelievable goal”.

“We’re pleased the ball has gone in the back of the net but we’ve done nothing different – other than the ball has gone in the back of the net”.

– This was the first penalty that Chadli has taken in the Premier League, despite it being his 90th appearance in the competition.

I know what my team is capable of.

The Hammers have conceded at least two goals in 12 of their last 15 Premier League matches (33 goals conceded overall).

After the events at London Stadium last Saturday, it was another self-inflicted wound for Bilić’s boys, who replied with a trio of corners, a Simone Zaza backheel that drifted behind and an Antonio header that flew across the face of goal.

Having conceded 11 in their last three PL games, questions surely have to be asked of the West Ham defence, and this run clearly needs to end soon for Bilic’s sake.
