Equinix to provide direct access to Oracle Public Platform

The two companies made the announcement during this week’s Oracle OpenWorld conference in San Francisco, where Oracle rolled out yet another batch of new cloud services, and where the Redwood City, California-based enterprise software giant’s executives relentlessly drummed up its cloud services in presentations.

It should also provide a better framework to support the hybrid cloud systems that most enterprises run, as well as solid support for migrations to the cloud, according to Oracle. It is aimed at enterprises that want to use public cloud but can not because of security, compliance, or performance concerns.

And, by connecting to the Equinix Cloud Exchange, Oracle expands its platform reach and offers the private connectivity options that enterprise customers require for dynamic, flexible, hybrid multi-cloud architectures.

Yet most software is designed with key security features such as encryption being an option, which users can turn on or off, he noted.

Oracle announced a new set of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) products earlier this week, going head to head with the likes of Amazon with its Web Services. The Oracle Cloud Platform offers customers and partners the same platform as a service (PaaS) foundation upon which Oracle runs its own SaaS applications and upon which 19 of the world’s top 20 SaaS providers rely.

The deal will see Oracle Cloud available in six markets – Sydney, Amsterdam, Chicago, London, Singapore and Washington DC.
